The Office for National Statistics has just released this year's statistics on households and individuals with internet access. The report details numbers of internet users, connection types, educational backgrounds and most common uses of the internet. Headline reports include:

Approximately 65% of all UK homes now have internet access; an increase of over 1.2 million households since 2007.

  • 86% of internet enabled households now have broadband.
  • The use of broadband is up by over 5% - just 9% of connections now use dial-up.
  • 93% of people with a degree level education have access to the internet.
  • 69% of recent web users access the internet every day.
  • 84% regularly use the internet to assist in making buying decisions.
  • 73% of adults aged 25-44 have made online purchases, with 84% of those doing so within the last three months.
