Have you ever come across a font you loved on a website and desperately scrambled around to find it? Well help is at hand. Finding the perfect font that matches your brand, your tone of voice and your content message is difficult, and when you come across something perfect you need to utilise it.
WhatFont (Chrome plugin)
Billed as ‘the easiest way to identify fonts on web pages’, WhatFont is one of the most widely used tools around. The tool even comes strongly recommended by WebMonkey, Lifehacker and SwissMiss.
With an average rating of 4.5 stars, it also comes highly recommended by the public because it is so easy to use. With this extension, you simply hover over the font that you like, and WhatFont will identify it for you. There’s no need for any unnecessary coding, meaning finding the font you need is only a single click away.

As well as what font it is, Fount will also tell you the size, weight and style of the font you’re seeing. Plus, unlike less sophisticated software, Fount will tell you exactly what font you’re seeing, rather than what the code says should be displayed, leading to greater accuracy.
Plus, using it is as simple as 1, 2, 3. All you have to do is install Fount and then:
- Go to the site that uses the font you want to identify and click the Fount bookmarklet.
- Click on any type you want to identify and repeat until you’ve found them all.
- To turn Fount off, just click the bookmarklet again.
What could be simpler than that? And, because Fount is compatible with Safari, Chrome, Firefox and IE8+, you can use it anywhere.

Of course, other options are available, but these are our favourites. So get started today, it really couldn’t be any simpler.
